The project “Functional Polymer Composites“ – acronym „PolyComp“  is one of the ten projects granted within the current COMET (Competence Centers for Excellent Technologies) program by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) on October 24, 2012 for a four years duration with an overall project budget of 6 million Euro.

Under the direction of the Polymer Competence Center Leoben (PCCL), internationally renowned enterprises in the areas of energy and material engineering jointly enhance the performance of electronic and electro technical devices by optimizing the polymer components.

The usages of polymers in the areas of electronics and electrical engineering comprise numerous fields, to mention insulation materials for high voltage applications, electronic devices, and coatings as well as adhesives as prominent examples. Research and development in this area experience substantial expansion in the K-project “PolyComp”. Eight companies, among them ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH, AT&S AG, Isovolta AG, Siemens Transformers AG, and Wacker Chemie GmbH, and research institutes of four universities (MU Leoben, TU Graz, TU Wien und TU Delft) constitute an internationally unrivaled consortium that is managed by the Polymer Competence Center Leoben GmbH (PCCL).

The project „PolyComp“ merges the expertise of material scientists, chemists, plastic and polymer engineers as well as electrical engineers: Due to this concept, long-term and high-quality R&D activities aim at the short-term transfer-to-market of products and processes.
